Anthony, KS is a great place to live! Located
60 miles southwest of Wichita, and situated in Harper County, Anthony is
the county seat. With a vibrant shopping district, and nearby lake and
golf course, Anthony is a city that has a lot to offer young families
and retirees alike. Nearby cities like Harper, Attica, Argonia, Medicine
Lodge, Kiowa, and Norwich help make south central Kansas a place of
great opportunity. This area is a rural farming community, but located
close enough to cities like Wichita for anything not available "in
town."
In response to the 9/11 attack on the World
Trade Center, Anthony erected a
memorial
which is located in Memorial Park on Main Street. It is a must-see for
all travelers, whether they are just passing through or staying
overnight at the Anthony Motel. Since you can learn more about Anthony
at the following sites, I will focus on what the Healthier Kids
Foundation is doing in Anthony.

Anthony and Healthier Kids
When we first came to Anthony, we
fell in love with the laid back lifestyle and the low cost of living.
But with two small children who would be growing up here, we saw a
definite need for children's activities. On a rainy day, we were stuck
in the house. When it was too cold- stuck in the house. Then came the
108 degree summer- okay, we swam in the pool, but you get the idea. Back
home in Georgia, there are TONS of places to take children. Our favorite
was MyGym. I immediately felt that the kids in Anthony deserved to have
a place like MyGym, but knew that there would be kids who couldn't
afford it. There is no point in "building it" if they won't be able to
come. While there seems to be a LOT of kids here, we wanted to meet ALL
of their needs, not just the ones who could pay.
Our original idea from a children's
recreational gymnastics facility has grown into a children's center with
additional space for art, music, voice, drama, and anything else that
the kids in Anthony might be interested in pursuing. We want people to
come to Anthony and not feel that their children will be limited because
they live in a small town. And we don't want children who don't have
money to feel that they aren't worth a great start to becoming
productive and talented adults.
Anthony does offer dance,
baseball/softball, soccer, swimming, art, and gymnastics during specific
times of the year. Our goal is to provide a place for children to stay
active throughout the year, and no matter what the weather. This will
essentially help children perform their sports better as they will stay
"in shape" and be able to perform better in their specific sport. This
also means that little ones who are not old enough to participate in
organized sports will have a great footing in learning balance,
coordination, body mechanics, and strength to prepare them for future
sports, or simply for the fun of it! We want to raise Healthier Kids and
do everything possible to help others do the same. Please check back and
keep up on our progress as we plan to make the gym a reality!!
